Chaya brings with her an impressive background in the field of Bilingual Special Education. With over three decades of teaching experience, Chaya has built a reputation as an educator who truly cares about her students. She is known for remarkable ability to accurately assess and quickly remediate problems. Chaya has extensive experience working with children as young as two and all the way through older adults. She has worked in general classrooms, bilingual and ESL (English as a second language) classrooms, as well as special education classrooms, including a therapeutic setting, inclusion setting and as a consultant and advocate to parents and other teachers.

Chaya has worked with children who have a wide variety of disabling conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and general developmental delays. She has created original and innovative curricula for these students, and is adept at the design and implementation of behavioral intervention plans, in addition to other performance-based assessments. Chaya has designed a multi-sensory reading program for special education students as well as an ESL program targeting children with disabilities.

Chaya provides guidance and leadership to parents and others in the field of special education. To that end, she has been a speaker at various workshops and seminars including the New Teachers Center and CEC. She has also provided special consultation and advocacy services (as time permits) to clients of Center for Learning Abilities.

Chaya holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from George Washington University in Washington DC, and a B.A. in Elementary Education from the Anne Blitstien Teachers Institute in Chicago, IL. She is state certified in both Illinois and Washington DC in Elementary and Special Education, Bilingual Education, and ESL. Chaya is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and the ASCD.
